  • The most intrusive ads

I get it that news organizations need ad revenue to survive. But the Chicago Tribune’s app has turned into a minefield of intrusive ads that make it impossible to read a story. I’m a paying subscriber with digital access and Wednesday and Sunday print delivery. Still, I’m fine with a few ads. What the Tribune app has devolved into is unusable. Video ads pop up every five seconds whether you click on something or not. The ads completely block out the screen. I still support the Trib and enjoy their coverage but it seems the hedge fund ownership of Alden Capital is clearly not intent on making the hard work of the newsroom accessible, even to paying customers. It’s a shame.

I pay a subscription and sometimes it’s hard to get rid of the videos even after you close the ads. The app is very glitchy .
  • Sloppy app

The Chicago Tribune app is a mess. The article search is brutal unless you know the exact title. Navigating through the app is very clunky. It jumps up and down when scrolling. It’s like they hate that they have a sports section at all since they bury it behind like 15 other newspaper sections.
  • iPad Trib app is junk

U can be reading a news story or simply be scrolling stories and find an article, then suddenly the app will jump down the list, all without touching the screen, Garbage.
  • What’s with the pop-up ads?!

Title says it all. I can’t read a single article on this app without some image or video advertisement randomly popping up. And I’m a subscriber for goodness sake! It’s incredibly frustrating. I get that this newspaper’s revenue mainly stems from ads, but good grief. I don’t know how this app has an average rating above 4 stars. Please get rid of the pop-up ads!
  • Fix the landscaping orientation!

I can’t understand why you took away the landscape functionality on the iPad. This is really unhelpful. I generally read it in that orientation. The latest update didn’t fix it either?!
  • Crazy Ads Attacks keep me from being about to read @ChicagoTribune epaper normally.

Instead I must use search function to find stories of interest.
  • No more landscape view

Overall decent app once you learn to navigate. Recent gripe is the developers eliminated the talents ability to be viewed in landscape mode. Most tablet holders like mine are designed to hold them this way for easy reading. This also is awful when trying to read the comics.

    And the app is clunky.
  • Video Ads Unusable

The automatic full screen video ads routinely pop up and make it annoying to read articles. I am a paid subscriber and would not expect these ads to interrupt the reading experience. Additionally some articles link to a browser instead of in the app natively and it fails to recognize I am a aid subscriber and I run into a paywall.
