  • Shameless and Deserves a Lawsuit

You charged $30 for the original app purchase I’ve used a decade then nullified this purchase by essentially cancelling it in an update that forces everyone to a subscription model, thereby pulling the rug out from under thousands who purchased it. So much for learning about nature and avian conservation, just shameless pure greed. And you now have the nerve to offer a $60 so called lifetime purchase after you breached the older purchases of thousands of customers. Why should anyone trust you? This warrants a class action lawsuit for breach of contract. I will no longer mention this app to anyone in the bird community and higher ed but will steer them all to other apps. Shame on you!
  • Unusable! Current annual subscription ignored

I have 8 months left on an annual subscription, paid for and showing in my iPhone subscriptions page. The app, however, says none exists, and the developer has failed to respond to my email, to which I attached a screenshot showing my subscription. I cannot even half-heartedly recommend this app, since they have so flagrantly taken money for a service that they failed to provide.
  • DO NOT buy! App owners greedy and do not care about customers

I bought this app 10 or so years ago for $40. I spent the most money I’ve ever spent on an app supporting the developer. Now the app owners have the gall to start charging me a subscription to access the app!!! DO NOT support this type of greedy app developer! They do not care about loyalty and their long time customers. Deleting their app and going back to my Peterson Field Guide. I bought it and did not “rent” it….

No integrity with this developer. Paid good $$ for this app years ago and now it’s unusable w/o paying a subscription. Fundamentally wrong and greedy. I’ll do my best as a professional guide to steer people away from this app.

Waste of money, paid 30$ for the app in 2010 now they require monthly subscription!! You can get same info for free with other apps.
  • I see no difference from previous version

I have been a user of eBird pro for several years. I recently upgraded to the subscription version as mine was getting out of a date. When I started using the new version, I had lost all my records data and I could not find any differences from the previous version to the new version other than the subscription price. I’ll keep my old version.
  • Good App; Deceitful Developer

iBird is a nice and comprehensive bird reference. I purchased the full version with “Lifetime” access in 2012 and updated with the photosleuth component in 2022. Now the developer has “reset” the terms. Switched to subscription and locked out prior purchases and disabled the “restore prior purchases” button that directs you to send an email to support. I sent an email to support with information on prior purchases and it’s gone unanswered - cough cough. Now there is even an option for a paid “lifetime” subscription to iBird … yea, “lifetime” until they can cancel it out and try and monetize the app further.
  • Rip off scam

I bought a lifetime subscription a few years ago. Apparently, they only thought I would live a few years because the lifetime subscription ended and now they want me to pay an annual subscription. Fool me once, never again. Don’t fall for this scammy app. They stole my money.
  • They cancelled people’s prior purchases.

After purchasing the app, as well as additional features, they decided they wanted to charge a subscription rate. After that, they pretty much canceled what everyone had already bought and made the app unusable unless you pay them more money.
  • DON’T DO IT ! Buyer beware ! A nest of liars and thieves !

I give it one star , solely for the reason it won’t let me give it a ZERO . I purchased the top of the line for this app ( and it WASN’T cheap ! ) on July 18 , 2009 with the understanding ( explicitly using the term “lifetime”) that it was a one time payment for the agreement . In reality , it was a payment for “until we change our mind and want more money out of you !” Now they have closed it out on me and want me to PAY THEM AGAIN , to “subscribe” on a yearly or monthly basis . It’s a pure money grab . I refuse to deal with anyone who makes an agreement , takes your money , then comes back and reneges on the deal , demanding MORE money to supply you what you have already paid them for . The Internet is populated by enough thieves as it is , I refuse to be ripped of further by a so called “legitimate” business through the App Store. I don’t care WHAT your reason is , if you cannot follow through on a commitment and stay true to your word , you do not deserve to remain in business . If that is your idea of integrity , I won’t do business with you and will be sure to announce it to anyone who cares to hear .
