Description

Welcome to La Terminal, your spicy new ssh command center. More than just a simple command-line shell, La Terminal provides a fully-native, first-class touch experience for command-line hackers on iPhone and iPad. Built on Open Source: From the original developer of Midnight Commander, the open source visual file manager for Linux, La Terminal provides a comprehensive Xterm/DEC VT terminal emulator experience based on the popular open source SwiftTerm library with powerful client amenities for serious command-line aficionados. Command Search: Use Command Search to quickly find the command you are looking for. Search your own command history and our comprehensive workflow gallery to find and execute commands. Create and edit your own workflows for a variety of tasks, including running frequently used commands, automating a series of commands, or just tracking down a complex command that might be difficult to recall. AI-powered assistant: Get help writing Linux, Mac, or Windows terminal commands using plain English, such as “extract the name property inside the article element from a json file” or “list the most CPU consuming Kubernetes pods”. Eye candy: La Terminal sports a fully themeable experience accented with beautifully captivating live-effect backgrounds powered by Metal Performance Shaders. Secure Enclave: Your private keys are stored in the secure enclave so your private key can never be found in plain text. Powerful status visualizations: La Terminal’s resource monitoring tools put powerful CPU and memory use visualizations, as well as a native process explorer, right at your fingertips. Resource monitoring visualizations are accessible from the top of any connected terminal, and process explorer tools provide multiple views into CPU, memory, and disk utilization. Thumbnail snapshots show previews of connected hosts along with system load over time in the active Terminals view. Network monitoring plots data traffic on a world map to help you understand the sources and targets of connections to and from your connected hosts. iCloud for everyone: La Terminal makes it easy to switch between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac by syncing your settings and keys over iCloud - like magic! Host platform aware: Whether you’re managing a dozen Linux VMs on AWS or Azure, logging into zsh on your Mac desktop, or configuring your latest IoT Raspberry Pi project via bash, provides the most productive experience possible on a mobile device. La Terminal is even Windows-aware to ensure PowerShell power users can enjoy a delightful ssh experience, too. International support: La Terminal delivers extensive support for international terminals, including rendering internationalized output as well as support for internationalized input methods from native iOS dictation and international keyboards. La Terminal Pro features - Complete SFTP File Manager - Upload, download and navigate remote filesystems with our native SFTP client. - Files can be uploaded or downloaded to the Local device to be accessed through the native iOS Files App, or can be copied between remote hosts. - Files app support - Access files on any configured La Terminal host using Apple’s Files app and other native iPhone and iPad apps that have File Provider support - SSH Agent Forwarding - Use keys configured locally in La Terminal to seamlessly authorize connections when you SSH from one remote host to another. - All Live Backgrounds - Choose from our complete library of GPU-accelerated Live Backgrounds to fully customize your command-line experience. • It’s nice, but quite laggy

This would be amazing if latency were reduced significantly, I tried using Neovim through it, but it was quite a bit too laggy. It’d also be amazing if scrolling could be made to work with Neovim. Scrolling works in the terminal, but for some reason with Neovim, it just acts like the mouse is clicked and starts highlighting text to yank.
  • Too slow to use

I don't know what makes this particular terminal so incredibly slow, but it makes it unusable if you're planning to sit down and do work. If you code from a terminal you might think that this is a solution to the inability to code on vision pro -- it's not, unfortunately. Separately, it no longer works for me -- I think the owner may have price gated some of the ssh features. (certainly reasonable -- but since I'm not sure if that's the cause of the change it bares mentioning)
  • Delightfully silly

My needs are light, but I find this client to be a joy to use. Miguel’s sense of humor shines through.
  • Lot of lag

When typing, there is a lot of lag, so much so that the app is unusable. I ssh’ed into a machine on my local network, and after logging in, there is nothing I am able to do.
  • Blurry fonts, only two window support and pasting on click.

I noticed that the font is blurry compared to other SSH apps for Vision Pro. Despite that, I was unable to open more than two SSH sessions, one in an extra window and another in the main window. Furthermore, clicking on the terminal results in the text on the clipboard being pasted. Those make the app hard to use. Once those issues are fixed it will be a 5 start app!
  • Now working on Vision Pro!

First, I'm happy to update this review once things start working. I can't get anything to connect using the Vision Pro. I have no problem using this app successfully with my iPad or iPhone. With the Vision Pro I see ".waiting ... PolicyDenied" for every host I try connecting to (macOS and Linux). I tried enabling additional diagnostics in settings, but I didn't get any more info. Nicely designed app, however. I **really** want a setup with the Vision Pro where I can use my paired keyboard and a terminal. And I was hoping this would be it... *** UPDATE 1 *** I was able to get La Terminal working on Vision Pro by going into Settings -> Apps -> La Terminal, then turn OFF "Local Network Access", then turn ON "Local Network Access". I don't know why network access seemed to not be granted when visionOS prompted me to allow when I first started the app? Anyway, now that everything is working I can give this a proper test drive. *** UPDATE 2 *** This app really makes the Vision Pro a usable work device for me. It is super cool to have a terminal open, a browser open, music playing, while being immersed on top of a cliff with clouds rolling by. La Terminal is a bit glitchy, so thank the gods for tmux. The "native" session persistence doesn't seem to do anything. Also, the "tmux" option in the menu is no good because it starts a new session when reconnecting instead of attaching to the existing session. Running tmux is REQUIRED because La Terminal does not seem to handle network glitches gracefully. I will literally be typing in my editor and I get a popup about a network disconnect — this seems specific to La Terminal; I don't see these frequent network interruptions with a-Shell (also I can't run the helix editor with a-Shell, but it renders beautifully with La Terminal).
  • Got lots of great details right but blew one of the basics

It’s a cool app with a lot of thoughtful features, but it annoyingly puts a black bar at the top and bottom of the window in order to accommodate rounded corners. I wish they would just make the corners square, so that the text could go right up to the margin.
  • This is what I purchased AVP for.

As a linux admin/devops engineer. This is my “killer app” for the AVP. This app makes it possible for me to work effectively on remote clients without relying on my macbook. Other terminal apps work, but this is the first one I’ve used where I immediately knew that I could confidently get work done. I never leave app reviews, but this one definitely deserved it. Hats off to the team behind this!
  • Awesome Start on Vision Pro

Solid terminal implementation, needs a lot of the usual features we expect from terminals, like turning off rendering bright colors as bold fonts, banning the soft keyboard from ever appearing again, or opening a second session with a host. Don’t let that stop you from using it — it’s still a lot better than suffering through xterm.js in a browser until Vision Pro terminals mature.
  • Thanks!

Turns out you can change that default port! Thanks for the feedback. The app sometimes crashes when I scroll to the appearance section of a connection though. But so far works great for my needs.
