Non-subscribers may access the app by starting a free trial. A subscription costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 annually, and includes a 7-day free trial, after which it will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period and will state the cost of renewal. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. Subscriptions may be managed by the user, and auto-renewal may be turned off by updating the user’s App Store Subscription settings after purchase. Payment will be charged to iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Information about our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy can be found at http://www.condenast.com/privacy-policy.

Reviews

  • Great publication; awful app

Simple UX shortcomings that drive me nuts. I know that nothing will come from this review (it’s as if they’re committed to ignoring any and all user feedback) but it’s my only outlet for the rage.
  • Desperate for Dark Mode

Longtime reader, who enjoys augmenting print with the app access but I am BEGGING for a dark mode option. My app use would go up tenfold if there was a dark mode available. I usually look to Twitter, then follow the link to my browser so I can use dark mode that way. This workaround has many flaws. PLEASE! Give us dark mode!
  • Jacked audio

The app turns off outside audio (like Music) when opened. I like to listen to white noise or music while reading, especially to drown out my stupid tinnitus. The latest version does this so it’s gets one star.
  • App disables other apps access to audio when open

App is ok. But it won’t allow me to play music from a music app while TNY app is open and I am reading an article. If I were listening to an article, I would understand TNY app pausing music app. But I almost always just read articles and would like to be able to enjoy some music while doing so. If there is a known solution to this please let me know. I tried reinstalling TNY app to no avail. Thank you.

The app doesn’t recognize my subscription.
  • Worst app. Always having to sign in

The app is the poorest one I have on my phone. Every time I go to it I have to sign out, and then sign back in, and hopefully I get to content, but not always. Too much hassle, and the problem never is fixed no matter how often I call.
  • App is fine, AI audio is yuck

I love the top-quality writing found in the New Yorker. The app is fine, with a nice clean design, but the AI audio versions of articles are truly awful. The sing-song, pseudo-concerned voicing isn’t even useful as a sleep aid. Would it sink the magazine to pay humans to do this work?

I got a subscription yesterday and every time I try to read an article, I have to sign again and then I can’t find the article. So I have tried to unsubscribe but I am not able to unsubscribe
  • Won’t link to print subscription

I’m unable to link my print subscription by either subscription number or by name and address to which the print edition is sent.

I can sign in on my browser but not in the app on my phone. Frustrating. The subscription is too expensive not to work on my phone.
